Abstract

Graph-based representation of images is becoming a popular tool since it represents in a compact way the structure of a scene to be analyzed and allows for an easy manipulation of sub-parts or of relationships between parts. Therefore, it is widely used to control the different levels from segmentation to interpretation. The 14 papers in this volume are grouped in the following subject areas: hypergraphs, recognition and detection, matching, segmentation, implementation problems, representation.

Abstract

This two-volume set constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 5th European Conference on Computer Vision, ECCV'98, held in Freiburg, Germany, in June 1998. The 42 revised full papers and 70 revised posters presented were carefully selected from a total of 223 papers submitted. The papers are organized in sections on multiple-view geometry, stereo vision and calibration, geometry and invariances, structure from motion, colour and indexing, grouping and segmentation, tracking, condensation, matching and registration, image sequences and video, shape and shading, motion and flow, medical imaging, appearance and recognition, robotics and active vision, and motion segmentation.

Abstract

This book constitutes the joint refereed proceedings of the two IAPR International Workshops on Structural and Syntactic Pattern Recognition and on Statistical Techniques in Pattern Recognition, SSPR'98 and SPR'98, held in Sydney, Australia, in August 1998. The book presents 107 revised full papers selected from 134 submissions. Also included are six invited presentations. The papers are organized in topical sections on structural matching and grammatical inference, recognition of 2D and 3D objects, document image analysis and recognition, handwritten character recognition, shape representation and image segmentation, learning methodologies, feature selection and extraction, statistical classification techniques, statistical pattern recognition, and rejection in pattern recognition.

Abstract

Active Contours deals with the analysis of moving images - a topic of growing importance within the computer graphics industry. In particular it is concerned with understanding, specifying and learning prior models of varying strength and applying them to dynamic contours. Its aim is to develop and analyse these modelling tools in depth and within a consistent framework.
